I really apologize for posting this late, but due to sleeping arrangements, I tried to use someone else’s computer and it went to sleep and locked me out while it was uploading pictures. Being late at night, I didn’t want to wake anyone up to put in their password. Sorry ’bout that. Anyway, here are yesterday’s pictures:
Yesterday I rode for a friend of a high school teacher of mine. His name is Bob Bennett and he has been battling cancer for 6 years! This picture was taken at the Four Corners!
In case you don’t know, the Four Corners is where Utah, Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico meet!
The ride from yesterday was pretty easy and it was almost ALL downhill! Going from Colorado to New Mexico, there was a drastic change in scenery! As soon as we summitted our first hill, on the way down, everything turned from lush and mountainous to flat and dry. Here are all the stats and GPS route: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/546842650.
I rode with Heather, Kevin, Danny and Erika. The ride was mainly uninteresting although I got what I consider to be my first flat tire. On Day 1, I shredded my tire and that popped my tube, a few days ago, I replaced a slowly leaking tube, but yesterday for no reason whatsoever, my back tire went flat and I had to change it. I don’t think I’m doing so bad! During the ride, the five of us tried to harmonize to the national anthem, but we failed miserably. So miserably that Heather almost fell off her bike laughing at us! After the last water stop, the ride became super dry and hot. We all were sucking down water unnaturally fast!
When we arrived at our host, Christ the King Church in Shiprock, NM, there was the most adorable stray kitten waiting for us!
It was really tiny and skinny, so we tried to feed it and give it water, and we also called an animal shelter to see if they could take it in. The little guy wouldn’t shut up and was climbing all over everything and playing with crumpled up pieces of paper! Once everyone arrived, we piled in the vans and drove to the Four Corners (pictures above). After the 27 of us angered some people in line to take pictures, we promptly returned to our host for dinner.
We ate hamburgers and hot dogs with salad, potato salad, baked beans and chips! Our host was super nice and even let some of us sleep in his house that was in front of the church. I got to sleep in a BED! A full size bed all to myself! After dinner, some people went to go see Shiprock, the rock the town is named after, but Taylor, Allison, and I stayed behind and claimed our beds in our host’s house. We also got to veg on the couch and watch TV. I think this was the first time I’ve watched TV since I’ve been on the trip! After doing some laundry I took Taylor’s computer and tried to blog. It locked me out, and my bed was so comfortable, so I gave up and went to bed early.
I also took this picture of the bruise that is developing on my leg:
It’s not a great picture, but you can kind of see the bruise on the tan part of my leg. I have a better picture for my next post about today. Until you read that one, remember to comment on this one!
